WPL Round 13 - Ashburton vs Eltham North
Ashburton and Eltham North shared the points today in a 1:1 draw at Ashburton Park. The result means that Ashy remains in second place 4 points behind Box Hill and 2 points clear of Sandringham. The game was a tight contest in which both defences domintated, however, the style of play of both teams was in sharp contrast. Ashburton's slick passing style generated several opportunities to score, but only one of these was realised when Seyma Erenli found the back of the net after a great build up. Eltham's long kicking to the breaking forwards similarly only generated one result - a cracking strike to
Deanna Niceski. Ashburton probably had the better chances on the day with 2 balls bouncing off the crossbar and mopped up by the Eltham keeper who had played very well all day. For Ashburton, Stacy Louras, Cindy Dussoye and Rosey Mortellaro played their hearts out and Seyma tried hard as did Christine Pfeiffer who continues to impress up forward. A special mention must go out to Steph Hegedus who played a tough and determined game.
Unfortunately the game was abandoned with about 5 minutes remaining due to a serious injury to the Ashburton captain Seyma Erenli who was rushed to hospital by ambulance. The whole Ashburton Club community wishes that Seyma has a speedy recovery.
