This was the classic "game of 2 halves" with South Melbourne shutting down Ashy's scoring power in the first half to lead into the break 2:1. The Ashburton girls looked flat and when South Melbourne scored the first goal there were some ominous signs for Ashy.

The second half effort by Ashy was in stark contrast to the previous 45 minutes. After the break the Ashy girls displayed the fluid heavy scoring style we are used to. 4 goals were put in the back of the net, and with Kristin Stensholt, Seyma Erenli and later on Annabelle Gibney running riot up forward the final score could have been even greater. Unfortunately the game was marred by injuries on both sides, hopefully these will not prove too serious. Final score 5:2 to Ashy.

In the reserves, Ashy trounced South Melbourne 6:0
