University
of Melbourne was unable to
secure the win it needed to
avoid relegation, falling
5-1 to Ashburton at
Ashburton Park. Annabelle
Gibney was the chief
destroyer for the home side,
grabbing a hat trick by
half-time and finishing with
all five of her side’s
goals. Two goals behind
Heidelberg’s Belinda
Pannella at the beginning of
the round, Gibney’s record
haul took her to 26 goals
for the season and made her
the leading scorer in the
WPL this season
