 Heidelberg United nailed its WPL title credentials to the wall with a resounding 4-0 win over Ashburton in this weekend’s match-of-the-round. Ladder leader Heidelberg United was an emphatic winner over Ashburton on Sunday, smashing four past the league’s third-placed outfit – three of them in the first half. Sarah Groenwald scored a double, Belinda Pannella extended her lead at the top of the WPL goal-scoring charts with one, and Meagan Thornton notched her eighth goal of the season. With two home games left to play against Sandringham and Bendigo, the minor-premiership is looking increasingly secure for the ‘Bergers, who have set the pace at the top of the table for most of the season.
