Ashburton consolidated top position on the WPL ladder by thrashing Preston Lions 7:00. The home side took the best part of the opening half to break down a resolute Lions defence, but once the floodgates were opened piled on five second half goals in a powerful display. Seyma Erenli was the star, scoring five, while Annabelle Gibney’s brace took her to nine for the season.
Interestingly most of Seyma's goals were scored after being on the end of some very rough play which surprisingly did not warrant a card. Opponents should take note!
A highlight of the game was to see Ashburton's new recruit Tal Karp demonstrate the skill, poise and control which earned her a Matilda's jersey. More photos....
The Lions now drop one place to fourth while Ashy remains clear of Heidelberg on a significant goal difference.
Meanwhile, in the WPL reserves competition, Ashy easily accounted for Preston Lions 5:0. Reserves photos...
In the first game of the Women's State League 2 (S/E) competition a much improved Ashy team accounted for Knox City 3:0. SL2 Photos...
The State League 3 (S/E) team unfortunately went down to Mornington 1:3.
