OUR MISSION

To offer girls and woman from all communities the opportunity to play soccer in a safe, enjoyable and professional environment this allows them to develop to their full potential as players and individuals.

OUR VISION

To be a great community based woman’s soccer club that excels in all aspects of soccer and personal development of individuals.

OUR GUIDING PRINCIPLES

In conducting its affairs the club will be guided by a set of principles that reflects the Club's values and aspirations.

1. It is a Club community

Rationale:
Naturally, soccer is our reason for existence. Whilst we aspire to be professional in everything we do, by desire and necessity the Club is very much community based and oriented. We wish to be part of and reflect the values of our community, and also recognise the prohibitive costs in running the club as a truly professional entity.

Implications:
Playing for AWSC is not just a mere payment of the fees as being part of the larger Club community. As such parent's involvement is both encouraged and expected. Most Clubs’ positions are voluntary and the nominal paid positions are limited to the more demanding task of coaching and the likes. The Club recognises that as parents we are all busy individuals, hence the more reasons for involvement from a greater number of parents. In return we believe that both players and parents will be richly rewarded with what the Club community has to offer.

2. The Club has the final say on Teams composition

Rationale:
Individual player or group's requirements may not always coincide with the needs of the club community.
Without this the Club won't be able to strive towards fulfilling its missions.

Implications:
Whilst individual or group requirements will be taken into account, ultimately the Club will decide on Teams composition.
Flow-on Rules:
Ultimate power on Team composition rests with the Club.

3. Learning and personal development through team sport

Rationale:
Proper coaching of our youngsters is the vital ingredient in excelling in the sport, and in life. Through team sport they can learn about discipline, teamwork, listening, good behaviour, sportsmanship and, above all, also to have fun.

Implications:
Within the budgetary constraints the Club will strive to recruit professional and/or volunteer coaches, and will encourage and finance ongoing training through FFV. The Club is seeking to promote appropriate behaviour on the sports field e.g. Bad language and bad sportsmanship will not be tolerated. The Club will look for as much parent participation as possible. Parents and Coaches are expected to be role models in sportsmanship and behaviour for our youngsters.

Flow-on Rules:
Bad language or unsportsmanlike behaviours may result in suspension or expulsion from the Club for player, parents or Team Officials.

4. Participation in Sports

Rationale:
Simple sport participation is very important to the majority of AWSC players, and the team spirit and camaraderie that this engenders.

Implications:
The Club will attempt to offer a place to any youngster wanting to take up or play in a soccer team, subject to the organisational and financial capacity of the club, availability of coaches, the parent’s commitment to the club and there being enough applicants to form a complete team.

Flow-on Rules:
Players from local areas will be encouraged.

5. Strive for Excellence

Rationale:
One can not deny that sport is about excellence. Those with drive, talent and passion in the sport will go to another club or, worse still, get disillusioned and give it up completely if this notion is not recognised and catered for.

Implications:
Talented players with the drive and desire to play in a more competitive environment can apply for “advanced” AWSC Teams. The Club will stress that this is not about a good and bad team, but more to do with player's experience, demonstration of superior skills and the player's commitment about the game. As part of a player's overall career path, as judged by the Club at any particular season, a player may alternate between “advanced” and normal teams from year to year depending on the player's form and commitment in the preceding year.

Flow-on Rules:
Coaches for “advanced” teams will target interested players who possess the desire, aptitude and skills to play in a more competitive and demanding environment than normal. Players will be advised well in advance of the season of their placement in an “advanced” team. The club's decision will be final.

6. In the normal competition (“non-advanced”), the club will field similarly sized and competitive teams

Rationale:
This is applicable to normal competition. The Club is about fostering good morale and for players to have fun while playing the sport with AWSC. The Club is fully aware of the potential negative factors, such as self-esteem, that a weak team may have on the players. Similar sized teams will ensure that everyone in the competition will get a fair go at playing. The Club believes that it is preferable to field a number of medium teams then having a number of good teams with even one bad or terrible team. The 'averaging-out' of the teams will also makes it easier for the club to identify skill problems and address additional coaching requirements, if needed.

Implications:
Where more than one team is fielded in a category, the Club will endeavour to 'even-up' those teams in numbers and skill level to make them similarly competitive.

Flow-on Rules:
The Club will decide on the ideal numbers that each team in a particular competition category shall have, to allow for absenteeism and reasonable amount of time each player will spend on the field. The Club will decide on the final numbers and the names individual teams will have.

7. First come, first served

Rationale:
This is for fairness to all players and parents that observe the rules and register early or on time. These players should not be disadvantaged in any way.

Implications:
It is a 'first come first served' selection priority. Late applicants will be considered only if there is place available, regardless of merits. Late fee penalty may also be imposed.

Flow-on Rules:
The players are advised to register at the earliest possible dates. Places will be offered to late applicants strictly on the basis of availability of place, and late applications will incur additional late application fee.
